Structural Design of Asphalt Pavement on Flexible Base for the Nanjing-Shanghai Expressway Expansion Program

摘要

The Huning Expressway serves a vital role in the movement of passengers and goods from Shanghai to Nanjing, so it is imperative that the highway provide good, long-term service to the traveling public. In response to the rapidly growing traffic, the Nanjing-Shanghai Expressway Company Limited (NECL) started the rehabilitation and expansion program. As part of that program, Applied Research Associates, Inc - ERES Consultants Division (ERES) has performed designs of asphalt concrete on flexible base for experiment sections that were built in the fall of 2003, using the 1993 AASHTO Guide and empirical-mechanistic design check.Hhe objective of this paper is to present design recommendations for an asphalt pavement structure on flexible base (gravel or asphalt treated base) . This paper will discuss design traffic, subgrade property, material property, 1993 AASHTO design procedure, mechanistic-em-pirical design check, and proposed pavement structures for the experiment sections.
