Introduction Both international and national safety standards oflithium ion battery used for mobile phones areavailable.Battery manufacturers certify their cell safetyaccording to international standards such as UL1642,UL2054and IEC61960-1/2. Some selected key safety tests areincluded in most of cell manufacturers' QC proceduressince the international standard certification fallshort of what is required to ensure consumer safety.Therefore,some cell manufacturers see this shortcoming and evenconduct cell safety testing in excess of ULrequirement,though many do not. It is extremely important thatcell users evaluate the cell safety thoroughly beforetheirequipment is marketed. Large lithium ion batteryindustries are growing fast, driven by such as E-bikeand EVapplications. Hazardous conditions for lithium ionbatteries occur when EV drives. However, much moreattention is now on the battery long-term performancetargets than on the safety standards due to the highperformance requirement of EV batteries. This isreflected by the fact that safety and abuse testprotocols ofEV cells are still under developing world widely.
