This paper analyses and calculates the ship and aircraft detection range of bistatic high frequencysurface wave radar (HFSWR) based on the relationship of target echo and clutter or noise power. Clutter andnoise are analyzed including sea clutter, environmental noise and ionosphere clutter, which deteriorate theperformance of HFSWR. SNR or SCR of ship and aircraft at day and night is calculated based on the bistaticHFSWR equation and clutter or noise mathematical model. The detection range is determined by comparingthe SNR or SCR with the fixed detection threshold. We compare the detection range of bistatic HFSWR withthat of monostatic HFSWR via computer simulation.
