Energy needs are constantly increasing, particularly in France where the annual electricityrnconsumption, due to cold production, exceeds 15 TWh. Moreover, the energy crisis requiresrnsignificant investment, which is difficult in times of economic crisis.It is possible to limit theserninvestments by peak shaving and demand response by shifting consumption from peak hours to offpeakrnhours.EDF is developing a software to calculate the energy saving and financial interest ofrncold storage units. This software is based on the law of physical of energy conservation ofrnrefrigerator and storage (sensible and latent). It can be used to optimize the facilities size andrnoperation strategy satisfying a given daily cooling capacity curve, with respect to the objective ofrnsavings. The purpose of this tool is to promote cold storage units in France; it will allow industry tornhave an objective tool for comparing different technologies, and to observe quickly the interestrnoffered by the establishment of storage.
