A practical test plant of a heat pump system which has both functions of heat recovery from freshrnmilk and cold thermal storage with ice slurry has been developed.rnThe test plant is assumed a standard scale of cow barn in Hokkaido district, which has 100 cows perrnbarn and 2000L class milking per day by Twice-A-Day milking schedule, and it has been installedrnat Nakashibetsu town in Eastern Hokkaido.rnIn the usual milking cow barn, it is required to cool fresh milk from about 37 degrees Celsius to lessrnthan 10 degrees Celsius for quality preservation. And hot water is also necessary for cleaning thernbarn.rnDuring milking period, fresh milk is cooled by the disaccharide base ice slurry coolant from storagerntank and then the ice storage tank coolant absorbs heat from fresh milk and produces an increase inrntemperature.rnAnd when the idling period, heat pump absorbs heat from ice storage tank to make hot water andrnsimultaneously make ice slurry in storage tank.rnWe have investigated and evaluated on energy balance and efficiency of the system. And it is foundrnthat the system has practical utility on the standard class cow barn in Hokkaido Japan.
