This paper presents a preliminary study that examines the effect of horizontal projections (such as a canopy or a balcony), installed above an exposing window which protects floors above from flames issuing from the window. The study is carried out using Fire dynamic simulator (FDS) combined with PYROSIM and SMOKEVIEW programs. These programs, to achieve the model of compartment fire scenario require investigating and determining temperature and heating flux.
