The effect of adding small amounts of certain high- molecular weight polymers to Newtonian solvents such as water is investigated numerically.To achieve this goal,a single spherical gas bubble placed in an acoustic pressure field was considered for the analysis.It was assumed that upon dissolving polymeric additives,the surrounding liquid obeys the''second-grade''model as its constitutive equation.The governing equation was then solved numerically using Runge-Kutta method and it was found that bubble dynamics can be affected by polymeric additives as a result of an alteration in its physical(surface tension),and/or rheological properties (viscosity,relaxation time).Among these,fluid’s elas- ticity appears to have the most influential stabilizing effect.The amplitude of the pressure field was also shown to be important in the response of the bubble but its frequency of little or no consequence.
