Tissue engineering allows to produce ectopical bone after isolated stem cells were associated to a synthetic material. The ways to associate the cells to the material are various. We have developed a method in which a calcium phosphate ceramic was implanted under the periosteum at the contact of bone and left for several days during which they were ingrown by osteogenic stem cells. The material was retrieved before it was ossified and transferred to muscles for several periods of time. They were then analyzed by histology. It was shown that all the samples produced bone and the amount of bone increased during all the implantation period making this method very efficient for bone reconstruction using tissue engineering.
