We have examined proposals for using squeezed and NOON states to enhance the performance of coherent laser radar and found that it is ultimately loss that prevents these approaches from being of practical utility. We emphasize that our negative conclusions apply to the specific techniques which we have investigated, and should not be construed as ruling out other applications of nonclassi-cal states to laser radar.
