摘要

This paper presents an overview of geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs) used as primary engineering design components and their relationship to the life expectancy of landfill facilities. The growing use of GCLs has brought about the need to better understand their endurance limits. The criteria to assess the risk and economic impact associated with their potential deterioration are addressed. The ability to develop accurate life expectancy requirements is discussed and limitations detailed within the paper. Recommended life expectancy requirements are noted and example evaluation criteria are also stated.
