Durability of geosynthetics at the face of a segmental retaining wall (SRW) has recently become an increasingly important design criteria. The introduction of a reduction factor for durability at the connection requires that the conditions at the face be defined in order to develop the appropriate safety factor for geosynthetic reinforcement. One important measure in determining the durability or longevity of polyester geosynthetics is pH. Two methods used to measure the pH of the SRW unit have been evaluated and the results are presented in this paper.
