The design of higher quality of roads is requested as the increasing ofrntransportation burden, vehicle load and speed. Many researchers studied the damagernmechanics of pavement, but the effects of vehicle speed and load on the pavement strain werernexamined separately. The effects of vehicle speed and load on the road consisting of asphaltrnmixture, granular base and soil subgrade is established and a mathematic model of thernpavement strain relating to vehicle speed and load is constructed using quadratic regressionrnorthogonal design method. The FEA results show that, for a given load, the maximum horizontalrnand transverse tensile strain at bottom of asphalt layer and the vertical compressive strain at toprnof soil subgrade decreases as vehicle speed increased. The ratio between horizontal horizontalrncompressive strain and tensile strain at bottom of asphalt layer increases as the speed isrnincreased. Vehicle speed affects the horizontal strain at bottom of asphalt layer significantly. Thernpavement damage induced by dynamic load of vehicle can be reduced when vehicle speed isrnincreased. The mathematic model of pavement strain related to vehicle speed and loadrnindicates that the relationship between pavement strain and vehicle can be described by vehiclernspeed, load, quadratic effect of speed and the mutual effect between speed and load. Thernanalysis of variance shows that speed, load, quadratic effect of speed and the mutual effectrnbetween speed and load all have significant effect on pavement strain, and speed has thernhighest effect.
