摘要

We are working to quantify the impact of seasonal freeze/thaw conditions on roadrnroughness and determine how best to signify the need and timing for road maintenancernactivities. As part of our work, we must develop a methodology that correlates threernestablished roughness measurements and the associated increase/decrease in travel timerncaused by unpaved road roughness. Our goal is to develop a procedure for a rapid,rnmostly visual inspection of roadway surfaces in freeze/thaw regions, and prediction ofrnseasonally-induced roughness changes, without requiring cumbersome, complex orrnexpensive equipment or intensive data collection and analyses.
