Based on the known specifications of the Europeanrnsatellite navigation system GALILEO, the softwarernsimulation tool NavSim is used to estimate the achievablernpositioning performance under consideration of severalrnnatural, geometric and technical scenarios. To allow for arncorrect interpretation of the derived results, a shortrnoverview about the architecture of the simulation toolrnNavSim, the implemented models and therefore of theirrncapability and limitations will be given.rnThe NavSim simulator is realised as a two layer concept.rnThe system layer covers satellite movements, userrnmovements, tropospheric and ionospheric effects and thernsolution of the navigation equation. The signal layerrncovers all signal aspects of the system like pulse shapes,rnspreading codes, chip rates, non linearities or multipathrndistortions.
