The Block IIF contract called for a Space Vehicle thatrnwould provide for flexibility and growth. Now after fivernyears, launch vehicle changes, and GPS modernization,rnthe Block IIF SV design is still ready to meet the call.rnThe original spacecraft bus design flexibility has allowedrnBoeing to provide a modernized signal-in-space (SIS) andrnmeet new civil requirements. Our navigation payloadrnprovides the necessary flexibility to generate and transmitrnthe presently defined signals, yet allow changes to the SISrneven while on orbit in the event that the signal definitionrnneeds to be changed. In addition to providing for newrnmilitary requirements, the modernized IIF will begin arnnew era in civil navigation services with L5 and additionalrncivil signal on L2. Performance and operationalrnenhancements of the original IIF system will be carriedrnover to these new services. This paper will describernchanges to the GPS IIF architecture, new navigation servicesrnthat will be offered and associated performance predictions.rnIn addition, flexibility features being designedrnin for growth, as well as to reduce risk of future requirementrngrowth, are highlighted.
