Biosolids dewatering in the US is usually accomplished by eitherrncentrifuges or belt filter presses. Occasionally, membrane plate filter presses arernused. However, the screw press, long used for paper mill sludge dewatering, isrnrarely used. This paper will describe a new type of screw press (Netzsch’srnContipress), which is reported to overcome all of the previous objections ofrnbiosolids screw press dewatering. Some case histories will be presented torndetail its performance as well as direct comparisons to belt filter presses atrntypical municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants.
