Simulation-based Energy Flow Evaluation for Sustainable Manufacturing Systems

When talking about enemy consumption of production it is crucial to have in mind that different types of energy need to be considered.Manufacturing companies extemally demand primary energy sources like coal,gas,oil or renewable resources like wind or sun.Additionally,converted from these sources, internally energy forms like electricity,compressed air or process heat(e.g.steam)are of major importance.While the demand is dynamically connected as control system,simulation is necessarily needed fob deriving and evaluating measures for improving energy efficiency on a realistic base.Against this background this paper presents an appropriate simulation approach which enables an integrated evaluation of typical production target criteria(e.g.production volume)and energy driven variables(e.g.energy consumption or electricity cost).Potentials and applicability of the concept are shown in a case study of a weaving mill.
