In spite of several decades of increasingly sophisticated systems engineering processes, methods, and tools, industry continues to be plagued with systems engineering failures. Enterprise leaders are focused on delivering solutions that meet customer needs and have become weary of systems engineering that does not consistently deliver results. In view of the increased complexity and complicatedness of systems development in today's marketplace, systems engineering is at a crossroads necessitating a transition to a more expansive and integrated mindset. A mindset comfortable with changing variables, eternally evolving requirements and capability needs, lack of single-oversight control, and simultaneous interoperability among many networked and interdependent systems.
