Abstract: We present numerical results from a model of a VCSEL operating in two modes, including the diffusion of carriers. The main conclusion is that the small-signal Modulation Response Function presents peaks corresponding to the resonances of the modes. This function display a more or less pronounced interference if the modes are competing for the same carrier reservoir for which the size of the device is fundamental to determine the overlap between the modal distribution of the field and the carrier distribution into the active region. Results including also transport and capture are similar. Typical evolution of the photon output of both modes displays typical competence traces.!2
