This paper describes the overall sizing of a high-speed electrical generator (20 kVA, 80.000 rpm) forrndirect coupling to a small power turbine that has different combustibles. Such a machine has differentrnapplication field: noticeably, the on-board generation of electric energy in hybrid vehicles, or therncombined generation of electric and thermal energy.rnThe design of such a machine presents a number of unconventional problems: they are mainly in thernmechanical clamping of the permanent magnets to the rotor structure, in the eddy current losses in thernstator windings, in the losses of the stator iron, in the cooling of the machine. The result of the overallrndesign is a limited dimensions machine, that presents light weight, high torque and good efficiency.
