California faces significant air quality challenges. The California Air Resources Board hasrnadopted a Zero Emission Vehicle program to provide long-term reductions in emissions from thernCalifornia vehicle fleet. Under the program, significant numbers of zero and near-zero emissionrnvehicles will be delivered for sale in California. Staff estimates that when fully implemented thernprogram could result in roughly 900,000 extremely clean vehicles per year being delivered forrnsale in California, about 50 percent of the affected vehicle fleet.
