Next generation electric powertrains will need to provide an attractive level of thermal comfort tornconvince customers to buy. Fortunately, the challenges for thermal comfort with these systems alsornbring opportunities for improvement.rnThe first aspect of these systems is the use of powerful additional electrical heating systems, possiblyrnwith better distribution and less noise. The second aspect is the use of electrical air conditioningrnsystems using electrical compressors. The electrical A/C loops also offer advantages in terms ofrnenvironment protection. A third distinctive feature is the need for battery thermal management to bernintegrated in the climate control because it can supply warm or cool air to the battery.rnIn order to reach a high level of cabin thermal comfort and customer satisfaction, a full control ofrncomponents (electrical heater, A/C loop and battery-conditioning unit) and measurements of newrnparameters are required. Data exchange with the powertrain and body bus systems will be needed tornprovide the necessary control. Complete strategies, taking account of all operating conditions, arernimplemented in a dedicated controller that is developed using the latest design tools.rnThe good performance of the new electrical components, like the A/C compressor, can be seen inrnconventional tests. But their potential will only be shown in conditions including constraints that arernspecific to the new powertrains. Among them, A/C and heating at stops (preconditioning, stop&go,rnpark A/C) are the most important cases.
