Electric Vehicle (EV) designers face several challenges in the vehicle general architecture and inrnthe drive system design. The EV drive design is increasingly becoming a "Golden compromise".rnVarious applications throughout the worldwide EV market, such as electric cars, light vehicles,rnfork-lift trucks, 2- or 3-wheelers, can result in the same main alternatives for electric motor andrndrives.rnThe present article is a summary of SKF practical experience in EV drives design process, relatedrnto Bearings and Sensor-Bearing Units It will compare the pro and contras of transaxle centralrnmotors, wheel motors and gear motors used in Evs (Battery Evs, Hybrid series and parallel), andrnthe mechatronics solutions developed to solve the various related challenges.
