摘要

This paper describes the City of Los Angeles’ (City) comprehensive approach, using its Department ofrnWater and Power (LADWP) as the lead agency, to supporting a viable and sustainable electric vehiclern(EV) market. The paper also includes examples of activities that other municipalities can undertake tornhelp establish a successful electric transportation industry in their regions.rnEVs offer well-documented air quality, economic and energy efficiency benefits, creating a policyrnimpetus to support their introduction. As described in this paper, the City established policy-level supportrnfor its EV program early on, laying the foundation for future EV efforts.rnUnder the auspices of the LADWP, the City has committed to the use of EVs in fleet applications, thernsupport of electric bus deployment, and the installation of home and public EV infrastructure – the latterrnin partnership with a variety of public and private organizations.rnBy taking a comprehensive approach to the electric transportation issue, the City thus has demonstratedrnan ability to reduce barriers to the introduction of zero-emission transportation in Los Angeles.
