Automatic platooning is expecting to increase the efficiency of freight transportationand to reduce energy consumption and CO_2 emissions. However, driving safety andreliability need to be confirmed before applying automatic platooning to publichighways. To confirm the performance of automatic platooning, we constructed asimulation platform for automatic platooning using a universal driving simulator. Thedriving safety and reliability of automatic platooning, especially during an emergencysituation, can be investigated using the platform. Experiments showed that the proposedsimulation platform can simulate an emergency situation, such as the failure of thecontroller, and is effective for examining driver behavior.
