Sweden's second largest city, Gothenburg, is transforming to meet the transport challenges of tomorrow. The Gothenburg region wants to remain an attractive, sustainable and growing region, now and in the future.rnTo provide for good quality of life and economical growth mobility must be provided for without the sacrifice of a clean environment. To address the growing transport demand the public transport service must be expanded and upgraded. ITS will be a key component in making the public transport service attractive and reliable.rnThe equivalent of over €3,5 billion will be spent on infrastructure over a period of time up to 2028 in the so called "West Sweden infrastructure package". Improvements will be made in physical infrastructure, but also in the public transport service itself as well as in services. Half of the package will be funded through congestion charging that will be implemented by Jan 1st, 2013.rnWith the aim to double the public transport share in greater Gothenburg, the Swedish Road Administration, the City and Region of Gothenburg and the public transport organization Vasttrafik have joined forces. Through the cooperation DART (implementation of regional ITS) substantial investments are being made to promote the public transport service through ITS. This paper gives an overview of the cooperation, the process and projects in the ITS-concept that will lead Gothenburg towards a more sustainable and multimodal future.
