The textile industry is a major consumer of water and energy resources and a major source of chemically-polluted wastewater streams. The batch dyeing process is especially wasteful. After each dye cycle, all of the water, energy and residual chemicals used to dye the product is dumped to the drain. This process consumes excessive water, wastes energy which is used to heat the baths, and releases dyes and auxiliary chemicals to the waste stream.
