摘要

The laser welding of power train components is a well established technique which make use of the high reliability of CO_2 lasers which can be integrated easy into production lines. In the late seventies GM started to weld gears in production, Ford USA and Volkswagen in Europe following in the mid-eighties. These laser welded gears replaced electron beam welding because of high uptime and the flexibility to serve many work stations. Today Ford is using around 45 lasers for transmission component welding in USA and approximately 10 lasers in Europe. 1986 Rofin Sinar Hamburg installed a flexible gear production line in Kassel where two CO_2 lasers (5 kW) were used in 10 different welding stations to allow flexible production and redundant delivery of the laser beams to different work stations. The production is running nowadays using 4 lasers at 13 work stations. The daily mean production rate is 1700 gears which results in an overall number of about 6.5 million gears since the first installation.
