The high altitude simulation of rocket engines and propulsion systems are one of the excellent resources in the DLR test centre Lampoldshausen.rnThe development of rocket steam generators as a main subsystem for the altitude simulation has been done with great success in the past and will be continued for future tasks. New altitude simulations, environmental conditions, decreasing budgets and flexible test objectives requires advanced steam generators.rnThis paper deals with the development of green propel-lant steam generators on the basis of liquid oxygen (LOX) and alcohol (ALC). Units with 10 kg/s and 45 kg/s steam are developed, tested and in operation at the altitude simulation P4.2 (AESTUS upper stage engine) and P1.0 (satellites propulsion). Units with 16 kg/s and 55 kg/s are in development for P4.1 VINCI altitude simulation. The development, the main steam generator components, the development tests at the test position P1.1 and the operation within the altitude simulation will be presented.
