Hybrid propulsion offers many well known advantages. In practice it is not possible to take advantage of these capabilities. In fact, although the hybrid combustion process has been explored for many years, it is still fairly unknown and experimental tests so far have left a number of questions still unresolved. Therefore numerical and experimental studies are in progress at the DISIS in order to achieve fuel configuration and operating conditions suitable to ensure a uniform and complete fuel consumption and a regression rate roughly constant over time. Results of a number of tests with GOX and PE or HTPB as propellants are shown below. In particular, temperature and pressure effects on fuel regression rate measurements by an ultrasounds technique are analyzed and a method to correct temperature effects is proposed.
