PET - Geofibers are the essentially functional constituent elements of PET - geotextiles like nonwovens, wovens and related products like coated woven geogrids. PET - Geotextiles are materials with excellent mechanical properties concerning tensile strength and creep behaviour and therefore are often used for reinforcing soil with clear economical and ecological advantages. If installation in soil has been done appropriate lifetime of PEt - Geotextiles is generally limited by the resistance of the constituent PET - yarns and fibers to inner hydrolysis and in more alkaline soils also to the resistance of the constituent PET - years and fibers to inner hydrolysis and in more alkaline soils also to the surface attack of outer, alkaline hydrolysis. The lifetime of other Geotextiles based on polyolefin or polyamide based materials is usually limited by oxidation or design of antioxidant stabilizers.
