Geosynthetics, agrotextiles and textiles for architecture are widely used. In this paper I will present some specifics characterization methods developed at the Institut Textile de France. For all these applications we have to characterise the mechanical, hydraulical, chemical ... properties of the materials. The characterisation are made the most of the time with tests using standardised methods. But for some applications we have to develop specific tests, because it is necessary to know the stiffness and failure behaviour of the products and also to predict their long term behaviour. We have develop a biaxial tensile apparatus, able to carry out tests on large dimension specimen in order to take into account scale effect du to weaving, to determine the mechanical and theological behaviour under multiaxial stress. The agrotextiles are mainly used as wind breaks, hail nets, bird nets, insect proofnets. For these applications we have develop tests to characterise the effect of wind on the nets and determined the stress du to the nets on the elements of support and anchors.
