摘要

The Ngatoro oil field is a Miocene-aged field within the Mt Messenger Formation in the onshore Taranaki Basin. NZOG discovered the field by drilling Ngatoro-2 in 1991, after a previous operator had abandoned Ngatoro-1 in 1983. Subsequent wells have discovered a complex field structure with multiple reservoirs. Ngatoro has produced 2.5 million bbls to date, 80% of which has come from the main N1/16-0 reservoir. The Ngatoro Field is currently producing oil and gas from seven wells at three production stations. Average production is currently 1100 bopd, 3.7 mmscfd and 390 bwpd, and 95% of the gas is exported. The producing characteristics of the wells reflect the reservoir complexity. Two wells produce no water, while Ngatoro-2 produces 73% of total water. Three wells are free-flowing high GOR wells, while two are artificially lifted by jet-pump. Ngatoro-3 produces predominantly sales gas with some oil from the Moki Formation. Most but not all of the reservoirs are depletion drive. Production facilities have been designed fit-for-purpose, and are operated by two men based at the Ngatoro-1 site. The facilities design and manning strategy assure very efficient low-cost production, with an impeccable safety and environmental record. The key to unlocking the complexity of the Ngatoro Field to date has been the 3D seismic survey completed in 1995. This survey identified opportunities for infill drilling at Ngatoro-6,7,8 in 1996 and Ngatoro-9,11 in 1998. All five of these wells intersected oil. Technical work now focuses on optimising production from the existing wells, including identifying as yet untapped reservoirs. Recent work has identified a number of opportunities including potential for water-flooding, the addition of perforations in existing or new reservoirs, and the potential for small-scale fracture stimulation to enhance production.
