Electric consumption of gas boilers is becoming an important issue. While the regulations for the insulation of buildings are leading to lower heat demands and therefore lower gas consumption, the relative part of electric consumption in the energy balance of a boiler is becoming higher. A number of tests have been carried out at DGC in order to determine the influence of the different electric components on the total electric consumption of gas boilers and in order to determine the quantity of heat transferred from the pump to the water in the boiler.rnThe paper presents the measurement results obtained on boilers and pumps. Solutions are proposed to solve the problems of the present situation. One main conclusion is the need for new reliable test methods necessary for a fair integration of the electric consumption in the energy balance.
