Solid-liquid phase diagrams for the glycols; mono-ethylene (MEG), di-ethylene (DEG), tri-ethylene (TEG) and tetra-ethylene (TREG), are established at atmospheric pressure. For MEG/water solutions the impact of pressure and some hydrocarbon condensates is evaluated. The study concludes that a intermediate solid phase between glycol and water is formed for the glycols MEG, DEG and TREG. The freezing temperature of MEG is increased with increasing pressure and when brought in contact with some condensates. When designing low temperature processes involving glycols these effects have to be taken into account as the freezing temperature may be up to 40℃ higher than expected from conventional established design guidelines.
