A glass tubular solar-blind UV detector with an opticalelectro plane (UV phototube) is widelyrnused for flame detection in industrial furnaces and larger boilers, mainly because the UV sensorrncan detect flames despite any the change of flame size due to turning down of the burners thanksrnto its remote sensing. However, the lifetime of a UV phototube is limited to a few years and itsrnsensor head cost remains expensive due to its complicated metal structure in a glass tube. Recentrnadvances in nitride semiconductor technology have shown the promizing prospect to actualize arndurable, inexpensive solid-state flame-detector. A quasi-solar-blind p-i-n diode with a cutoffrnwavelength of 270nm based on Al_(0.44)Ga_(0.56)N has been test-produced and we have successfullyrndemonstrated flame detection in the background of visible room-light.
