Numerical simulations of a single ended radiant tube were carried out using a CFD code in order to optimise it. Characterisation of the flows and heat transfers and then validation with experimental measurements highlighted some phenomena which lead to a drop of temperature at the inlet of the tube and an increase of temperature in the end. Moreover, transient calculations allowed us to determine residence time distribution and so, the transit time in the tube and the required time to completely renew the combustion products in the tube. Afterwards, since numerical results were in good accordance with measurements on the reference case, a parametric study was done in order to study the influence of many modifications on the efficiency of the radiant tube and to find an ? optimised ? geometry.
