Justification of the feasibility of technological applications of gas hydrates requires fundamentalrnknowledge of their phase behaviour and structure of these compounds. Natural gas constituentsrnare of major importance in this respect. Experimental results for gas hydrate phase behaviour ofrnsystems water + gas + additive will be presented and compared to the distinct systems water +rngas. Reduction of the pressure for the equilibrium hydrate – liquid water – vapour is observed asrnwell as shifts of the equilibrium hydrate – liquid water – liquid hydrocarbon, mainly towardsrnlower temperatures. On the one hand, these phenomena can be explained by effects of mutualrnmiscibility of gas and additive. Though enhancement of stabilisation of the hydrate structure byrnadditional occupancy by additive components cannot be excluded on the other hand. Thernimplications of the observed phenomena for technological applications of gas hydrates will berndiscussed briefly.
