Technology development derives maximum value when products are implemented fully and applied correctly. Successful technology introduction requires user acceptance, agreeable company policy, and practical as well as user-friendly deployment practices. This paper describes a technology transfer program that the New York Gas Group (NYGAS) adopted for maximizing the understanding and ultimate benefit of the new Stray Current Mapper (SCM) technology and identifying the best applications at multiple companies. The SCM is a tool that provides for more systematic, reliable, accurate and simplistic assessment of stray current interference on gas transmission and distribution pipelines. The drivers for putting the program in place are presented together with the program goals and implementation. A couple of case studies demonstrate how NYGAS members used this approach to benefit quickly and fully from the new SCM technology.
