This paper describes the emissions of two premixed, conical, inward-firing, metal-fiber burners operating in a non-radiant mode with flue-gas recirculation (FGR). The emissions of a scale-model 120 kW experimental burner are compared to those of a geometrically similar 1.3 MW burner. The burner is designed for an application requiring an uncooled, refractory-lined combustion chamber. This combustion configuration was chosen because it results in low emissions of NO_X at low excess air, and because it minimizes the volume and surface area required for the combustion chamber. A NO_X emission correlation previously developed for premixed burners operating with non-preheated combustion air was expanded to take into account the effect of recirculated flue gas.
