A pressure test is performed once the construction or refurbishment of a main has beenrncompleted, before it is commissioned with gas. It is the final quality acceptance testrndemonstrating that the installation is fit for purpose. It is important that the test is performedrnappropriately and documented to as high a standard as is practicable. This paper covers thernbackground requirements for the test, the general technical problems involved, and those specificrnto polyethylene pipe. The development of an integrated laptop based package for all gasrndistribution pressure testing is described. This includes a novel acoustic method for monitoringrntemperature change of the air in the pipe during a pneumatic test. Field experience with thernequipment is presented.
