An economically attractive method has been used to increase the production of marginal gas wells. A reciprocating compressor was installed on the wellhead of various wells to lower the tubing pressure. Case studies from various wells in the Anadarko Basin, the East Texas Basin, and the Fort Worth Syncline Basin have shown a dramatic increase in gas production from marginal wells due to the compressor's installation. In 1999, 24 percent of the non-associated gas production was contributed by marginal wells, the use of compression might be a cost effective method to increase the production of those marginal wells. On the basis of the data analyzed, it is evident that the usage of compressors as a form of enhanced primary gas recovery offers operators an economical method to achieve higher gas recovery from marginal gas wells.
