A number of European gas utilities, architects and developers have jointly funded a project, with the European Commission, to demonstrate and evaluate the latest gas related technology for the home environment.rnThe primary objective of the project is to show how an optimal energy system can be provided for an individual home that offers improved comfort, flexibility and economy, and improves carbon dioxide emissions.rnThis paper provides detail concerning the UK contribution to this work, called project DEO (Domestic Energy Optimisation), which is being co-ordinated by Advantica Technologies Ltd in Loughborough.rnOccupied and unoccupied properties are in the process of being monitored for energy efficiency to compare energy usage levels before and after the installation of the newer technologies, which include solar water heating and domestic combined heat and power (DCHP).
