Gas companies whose primary tasks include the replacement of existing low-pressure cast iron pipes to ensure their continued safety or reinforce their aseismatic performance are seeking more efficient way to replace the piping. Currently, they are required to reduce the working hours for maintaining or servicing their facilities located under rights-of-way and reduce environmental impact, which means that replacement work is becoming more difficult every year.rnTo deal with this situation, TOHO GAS and ISEKI POLY-TECH, INC. have jointly developed a new trenchless method for replacing existing cast iron pipes with a polyethylene pipe. This method is known as ECOCAT.rnECOCAT has smaller replacement costs and shorter working hours than the conventional open-cut method. Other advantages of the new method are significantly less excavating being required with lower environmental impact and shorter traffic interruption of thereby reducing the impact on local residents.
