摘要

Existing experimental work on third party damage resistance concerns puncture by excavator teeth. Gaz de France studied the harmfulness of other equipment, like subsurface boring tools, on gas transmission pipelines. They behave differently compared to excavators, as their power per strike is limited, but they repeat the strikes at high rates. So what small to medium diameter pipelines are threatened by boring tools? We first tested the action of boring tools on steel coupons flattened from pipe. Full scale tests on pressurised pipeline sections completed the initial results obtained on plates. Two extreme cases were characterised: one leading to puncture, the other one, where damage remains superficial. Numerical simulation with a highly non-linear ABAQUS model, and limited to 20 strikes for computational time reasons, was performed to gain more insight. A first global approach to this third party damage problem was completed, needing future further refinement.
