Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd., is now working to introduce automatic meter reading and gas security via customer telephone lines to ensure safe gas supply, reduce meter reading cost, and provide value-added services that will improve the customer satisfaction (CS). With dissemination of the Internet, high-speed communication lines such as ISDN, ADSL, CATV, and optical fiber lines are now being introduced into the home. Cellphones are so popular that more and more households use no telephone lines. We have developed automatic meter reading for analog telephone lines, and now must do so for high-speed communication lines and for customers without telephone lines.rnHigh-speed Internet lines and cellphones appear likely to replace analog telephone lines, so we must produce automatic meter reading for high-speed Internet lines and cellphones using Bluetooth technology. This report describes an experimental system we developed. We provided value-added service to confirm whether services can be provided appropriately. This value-added service controls gas meters and gas-heated water supplies from outside the home using cellphone i-mode via the Internet and home servers equipped with Bluetooth.
