摘要

For long time Italgas has employed the cyclic sulphide THT (Tetrahydrotiophene) as natural gasrnodorant. Both bureaucratic limitations (the Italian legislation establishes that the THT and otherrnsulphides are subject to a specific regulation on handling and transportation) and the lowerrnodorant power (compared to that of the mercaptans) have pushed Italgas to try other odorants.rnThe final choice has been a mixture of a sulphide (Methyl Ethyl Sulphide - MES) and arnmercaptan (Tertiary Butyl Mercaptan - TBM), since an odorant exclusively based on mercaptanrncompounds has been judged to be too reactive for reaching a good propagation along every typernof natural gas distribution pipeline. The odorant founded on TBM and MES furnished excellentrnresults as odorant power and smaller problems in terms of fall and absorption in the natural gasrngrid.
