If the indirect determination of the boiler efficiency is not a new idea, some recent investigations have shown that the accuracy might be better with this approach than with the use of direct method. This is especially true for the new efficient boilers which have an increasing share of the market and which might become the main market of tomorrow. As a matter of fact, a method based on the determination of the boiler losses is in fact more accurate the lower the losses are.rnFurthermore there are several methods for the determination of the flue gas losses and cases losses. More particularly the flue gas losses method called Combustion Hygrometric Diagram (C.H.D.) is based on a new concept where the flue gas losses are determined with only few measurements. Because the measurement on gas or fuel oil and especially on flow and calorific value are the largest sources of errors this method avoiding a precise measurement on heat input offers very significant advantages relating the accuracy and costs [1,2].
