The paper describes some problems of hydrate control in gas gathering systems and field treatment units at northern fields of Russia. The use of conventional hydrate inhibitors (methanol and glycols) and the possibility and prospects of new inhibitors application are detailed. The ways to cut operating expenses of conventional inhibitors by modifying gas treatment and conditioning processes and by introducing automatic inhibitor consumption and pipeline gas quality control systems are discussed. The problem of hydrate formation at the final stages of field development is of particular attention.
