The practicality of converting exhaust and engine heat of an automobile into electrical energy has been improved with the on-going development of Power Chips, simple thermotunnel-ing devices which are projected to recover waste heat at a high Carnot efficiency for even low temperature operation. The specific engineering for automotive application has yet to be determined, but published third party work to date on the use of thermoelectrics can be relied on to provide many solutions. The projected output from exhaust and radiator heat is on the order of tens of kilowatts. Thus, Power Chips could be used to replace 42-volt alternators, and possibly provide electric boost to hybrid automobiles.
